Socks, An Addiction

We live in socks throughout the winter. We buy cute ones with fun colors, warm. or themed socks but why not knit ourselves the perfect pair that encompasses all of these attributes? Maybe you think they take too long to knit or you don't want to deal with double points. Well, why not knit them using the magic loop method?

If you know how to do this already then September's Knit-A-Long is the one for you! We are making simple, vanilla magic loop socks. We have fun yarn, striped yarn, solid yarn, whatever your little heart desires in order to dress up these vanilla socks.

The magic loop method makes sock knitting a breeze. You have a pair of socks to keep your little toes warm before you know it. In order to participate in the KAL you just need to know how to do magic loop and how to make a sock, we'll go through the pattern together.

The pattern is called Beginner Socks for Magic Loop, it's free on Raverly. You'll just need a ball of sock yarn with some decent yardage and US 2 circular needles at least 24" long. Hope to see you at the shop September 6th at 5pm. :)

New Stuff

We've got some exciting things happening at the goat lately. Let me a share a couple of them with you. One, we got new Alchemy Yarns in for the Magician's Scarf. We will not be kitting these since the colors we got in are pretty interchangeable.

Do you see those vibrant pinks and blues? Those are the newbies. I fancy the pink hues myself. I can totally see wearing a cream colored sweater and wrapping this gorgeous pink scarf around my neck. You know you can picture yourself in it too.

Our next bit of goodness is about our September Calendar. Let's discuss it shall we? As always we have our Learn to Knit and Crochet classes but the goodies are in the technique classes. We have Cables and you get a free follow up class where you learn to make a cabled coffee cozy.

Then there are the In The Round technique classes where you will learn to knit in the round either with circulars or with the Magic Loop method. They will be two separate classes. Both are extremely helpful and really build your knitting skills, especially if you want to participate in September's KAL, which is a Magic Loop Sock. Remember, the KAL is not a class, just more of a social gathering where we can guide each other through the pattern.

We hope you can make it in to grab a copy of the schedule or sign up for a class, or maybe even purchase some delicious Alchemy yarn. See you soon. :)

Fashion Knitting

I don't know about you but I'm seeing knitting everywhere. This months fall magazines, window displays, and in department stores. This wave is nothing new but is fun when it seems to be taking the spot light and we just so happen to be able to make it ourselves.

Here are a couple big name inspired knitting patterns. There are quite a few on Ravelry and then of course you have all of the Vogue patterns to think about but for now feast your eyes on these little babies:

Designer: Julianne Smith

Pattern: Upscale Baby
Designer: Kathleen Sperling

Crochet items are in too. This summer was chalked full of crochet. Crochet skirts, shorts, bathing suit cover ups. Now that it's about to be fall, it may be time to switch it up and this purse is a great example of a fashion forward, fall piece. It's inspired by a Nordstrom bag and is a free Raverly Download.

Designer: Dao Lam

I hope you're getting excited about your hobby's attention and look forward to the amazing pieces you get to create yourself.

Bye Bye Summer

We are on the last month of summer......time to use up the rest of your cotton, time to put away the small projects, time to shop for wool. :)

Now I know it's sad to see a phase of knitting end but it's also exciting to see another start. You're full of excitement, ideas, hope and eagerness. Looking through tons of aran patterns and busting out your big bags to hold all the wool you plan to purchase because anything from your stash is so last year.

We are excited over here too as we look at new lines to bring in and new wool blends to play with.  We never know what you guys are going to come up with or what our favorite designers are working on. As we get closer to those cool temperatures our wheels are spinning and we can't wait to share it with you.

If you feel the same way then fantastic, we can't wait to play around with fall with you. :)

Twilight Nights

It's the final month in our Movie Nights line up and we will be watching Twilight!!!  For all of those who love a good teen love story with a bit of monster drama this is for you. I'm sure you've already seen it or read it but it's quite fun and we really enjoy it.

We will be watching this tonight, the 10th, and again on the 24th. It starts at 5pm and ends when the movie ends. There will be themed snacks, yarn, good company and Rob Pattinson.....it's ok if you just come for the last one mentioned there.....We understand.

We hope to see you for a good time and fun vampirey discussions. :)

What to do?

I don't know about you but sometimes I get hung up on misusing a lovely skein of yarn. I bought it because I couldn't live without it and thought of all the possibilities but when the time came to actually cast on I was conflicted.

I didn't want to get finished making mittens and know that it would have actually been better as a scarf or finish with a pattern and realized it would have been perfect for this one instead.........So what ends up happening? It sits in my stash, it's glory wasted because of indecision.

My solution to such a ridiculous problem? JUST MAKE IT! I'm going to love it, that's why I bought it. I will find another yarn for the other pattern I was thinking of and that's going to come out great too.  Just let the little guy live his life as an FO instead of stash and enjoy him to his fullest.

For all of you who are hesitant to do anything with that perfect yarn you have, don't worry, it's not going to be wasted, it will be lovely and you'll find new yarn to fall for soon enough.

Alchemy

It's finally here!!!!  The Magician's Scarf Kit by Alchemy, which looks a little something like this:

We have three different color kits available and they are moving like hotcakes. No sooner had we packaged one up did it sell. Wonderful fibers are knit together in a simple eyelet pattern and then washed to create this beautiful piece.  It flows wonderfully and transitions through each season with ease.

So come on down and get it before it's all gone and you have to wait until the next shipment. :)
