GIft Cards

Christmas has come and gone and your stockings might have been filled with wonderful little trinkets or perhaps a lovely Got Your Goat Gift Card. If you were lucky enough to receive one of those you might be reeling with ideas about what to spend it on. Let me help you figure out how to spend it.

Books are always a good choice, you may never knit a pattern from them but that's ok. Some books are purely for inspiration and can be a blast to flip through every now and then and some may only have a couple that you don't plan on making. Here are some titles we currently have at the shop:

Knitter's Almanac by Elizabeth Zimmermann.
Knit & Wrap by Nathalie Mornu
Contemporary Crochet by Sys Fredens
The Best of KnitScene by Lisa Shroyer

Needles, who isn't looking to build up their needle collection? We carry Knit Picks Harmony, Hiya Hiya, Addi Turbo and Crystal Palace. We have sets in the Addis, Knit Picks and Lantern Moon. Good tools make for a better experience and product.

Bags, I honestly think that you can never have enough knitting bags. Your husbands may disagree but they tend to forget that when they walk around in a hand made object. We carry Lantern Moon baskets, Hadaki Bags and Tango Tango project bags. They come in all sizes and colors. There may just be the perfect bag for you waiting here at the shop.

And last but not least, yarn. We have tons, from lace all the way to super bulky. Some favorites that have surfaced for the season are:

Classic Elite's MoutainTop Chalet (Aran)
The Fibre Company Tundra (Chunky)
Cascade Eco Duo (Worsted)
Alchemy Silken Straw (Sport)

Now for everything we have mentioned there are many more options available, we are just throwing out a few to help turn the wheels. So come on in and check it out and put those gift cards to good use.

Tasty

I don't know if you missed it last time but the yarn tasting with Cascade was a blast and we have another one of these little shindigs tonight at 5pm but this time with Alchmey Yarn. Here's what you missed and an idea of what you'll see this time:

You'll see yarn, obviously, but you don't just look, you get to knit with a bit of it too! You get to see what you like and feel different fiber blends. Bring some needles and have some fun.

Examples of the yarn knit up in garments and projects. This gives you a better idea of how a particular yarn would look in a big project.

Food!!!  We always like to have a little something for you and this is quite the event so we have a lot of something for you. Yum........If you just came for the food and company I wouldn't blame you.

And last but certainly not least there were give-aways.......and their might be some this time too. ;) Good yarn and possibly some for free?????? Come on now, that's pretty awesome.

We hope to see you here tonight at 5pm and that's you find a little something you like.

Sheepie

Hello my name is Sheepie. Real original right? I didn't come up with it. Some silly girl at a yarn store gave me the name. Anyhow, I thought I might tell you my story.

I was born on a little farm in Vietnam. I had a grand old time running around in the meadow and napping under the trees. I mean the only time I wasn't content was when those yapping dogs would try and get me to go a certain way. This one time I pretended to be lost and had them chasing me around for hours. They were too tired the next day to bug me.

Well the time came where I was supposedly "grown-up" and had to pack up my fiber and head out. I heard about this factory in Portland......somewhere in the USA I guess, that was looking for some adorable sheep. I mean look at me? How could I not get the job? So I headed on out there for an interview. Needless to say that when I heard I would have to wear an apron and get sharp things stuck into that apron I had second thoughts.

The managers explained that yeah, there was some risk of being poked and yeah as a dude I might have to wear a pink apron but I had a chance to be taken into a warm, loving home full of people who adore me and play with my hair all day long. As you can see I took the job, but this is only phase one. Now I need to find a permanent home and please for the love of God......a better name.

Cascading Ideas

As you may have seen we got some new Cascade in yesterday. 220 Superwash Sport and Alpaca Lace.

I've got two words for you, soft and pretty. :) This stuff is just lovely and we got in some great colors. We even have more of the 220 Sport coming. Now if you're having trouble thinking of things to make with it, don't worry, we've got you covered. Here are some things we came up with.

For the 220 Superwash Sport:

Pattern: Andrea's Shawl
Designer: Kirsten Kapur

Designer: Grumperina

Pattern: Ida's Kitchen
Designer: Kirsten Kapur

Don't those just look fun? Simple but still fun, great fall or Christmas projects. The Shifting Sands Scarf is huge on Pinterest, just in case you were trying to think of where you've seen it before.

For the Alpaca Lace:

Pattern: Citron
Designer: Hilary Smith Callis

Designer: Hannah Fettig

Pattern: Flutter Scarf
Designer: Miriam L. Felton

You don't always have to do shawls with lace, I mean we threw in the Citron because it is just wonderful and practical while still being delicate and feminine. However, you can still do a garment and the Featherweight Cardigan is just the ticket. We happen to have copies of that pattern in the shop.

Also, to continue my tweed kick, Rowan finally posted pictures of their new patterns for the Rowan Tweed we ordered.

We bought all the yarn necessary to make this little number. You may have to fight me for a set-up. ;)

That's all from us here for today. We hope you find some of this inspirational and remember, we have the yarn you need!

Tweed

Tweed is huge people. I won't get into all of the other lovely trends right now because I feel like focusing on the tweed. I have my coffee and doughnut here during a somewhat crisp morning, daydreaming about being cozy in a nice tweed sweater. The many flecks of color, maybe some elbow patches???? Elbow patches automatically make you smarter right?

Why is my mind on tweed you ask? Well, Cindy just happened to order a bunch from Rowan.......that's right, Rowan Tweed, the good stuff. She got a ton of beautiful colors and a lovely book with amazing sweater patterns. I can't wait to play with it all and match the perfect color with the perfect sweater. I'll let you know when it comes in. It's going to be wonderful.

Socks, An Addiction

We live in socks throughout the winter. We buy cute ones with fun colors, warm. or themed socks but why not knit ourselves the perfect pair that encompasses all of these attributes? Maybe you think they take too long to knit or you don't want to deal with double points. Well, why not knit them using the magic loop method?

If you know how to do this already then September's Knit-A-Long is the one for you! We are making simple, vanilla magic loop socks. We have fun yarn, striped yarn, solid yarn, whatever your little heart desires in order to dress up these vanilla socks.

The magic loop method makes sock knitting a breeze. You have a pair of socks to keep your little toes warm before you know it. In order to participate in the KAL you just need to know how to do magic loop and how to make a sock, we'll go through the pattern together.

The pattern is called Beginner Socks for Magic Loop, it's free on Raverly. You'll just need a ball of sock yarn with some decent yardage and US 2 circular needles at least 24" long. Hope to see you at the shop September 6th at 5pm. :)

New Stuff

We've got some exciting things happening at the goat lately. Let me a share a couple of them with you. One, we got new Alchemy Yarns in for the Magician's Scarf. We will not be kitting these since the colors we got in are pretty interchangeable.

Do you see those vibrant pinks and blues? Those are the newbies. I fancy the pink hues myself. I can totally see wearing a cream colored sweater and wrapping this gorgeous pink scarf around my neck. You know you can picture yourself in it too.

Our next bit of goodness is about our September Calendar. Let's discuss it shall we? As always we have our Learn to Knit and Crochet classes but the goodies are in the technique classes. We have Cables and you get a free follow up class where you learn to make a cabled coffee cozy.

Then there are the In The Round technique classes where you will learn to knit in the round either with circulars or with the Magic Loop method. They will be two separate classes. Both are extremely helpful and really build your knitting skills, especially if you want to participate in September's KAL, which is a Magic Loop Sock. Remember, the KAL is not a class, just more of a social gathering where we can guide each other through the pattern.

We hope you can make it in to grab a copy of the schedule or sign up for a class, or maybe even purchase some delicious Alchemy yarn. See you soon. :)
